Busy Thursday night of College hoops as the regular season draws closer and closer to an end. Team must win to keep their rankings high as they jockey for position for an at large bid, should they fail to auto qualify through their conference tournament.
West Coast Conference
Saint Mary’s got away with a 62-59 win over San Diego. With a large half time lead, Saint Mary’s went scoreless for the final 7 minutes of the second half, allowing San Diego to get back into the game. Alex Ducas had 8 points and 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block. Kyle Bowen added 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Harry Wessels did not score off the bench. The Gaels lead the WCC at 12-1.
LMU lost big 108-65 to #13 Gonzaga, who avenge their loss to LMU from a month ago. Keli Leaupepe had 13 points and 2 rebounds in the rout. LMU have beaten the two top WCC teams this season, Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s, but this loss at home shows they may have some more work to do if they plan to progress to the March Madness tournament through the WCC tournament.
San Francisco beat Pacific 76-68. Josh Kunen had 6 points and 3 boards in 26 minutes as a starter.
Out East
In CAA action Charleston beat Elon 88-66. Reyne Smith dropped 15 points on 5-13 shooting from downtown, with 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Max Mackinnon had 4 points, 1 assist and a steal for Elon. Charleston are 14-2 in CAA play, while Elon sit at 5-10.
Central Arkansas lost 74-58 to Eastern Kentucky. Elias Cato scored 8 points with 6 rebounds and 1 assist as a starter.
South Alabama had a big win 85-55 over Southern Miss. Marshall Kearing ad 2 points, 2 rebounds and an assist in the win.
North Florida won 114-111 over Lipscomb in a Double Overtime classic. The Ospreys hit a 3 with 5 seconds to play to finally put this one away. Oscar Berry had 3 points, 2 rebounds in the win.
Out West
Sacramento State fell 52-49 to Weber State. Akol Mawein had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Hunter Marks added 2 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.
Northern Colorado lost 84-82 to Idaho. Riley Abercrombie scored 12 points with 5 rebounds.
USC won 97-60 over Cal. Harrison Hornery had 7 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist for USC. Kuany Kuany scored 11 points with 5 rebounds and 1 assist.
Incarnate Word lost in OT 78-76 to McNeese. 6’11 Sophomore Ben Griscti started at forward and had 5 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists. Lucas Barei played 2 minutes with no score.
